European judges took interest in SACL activity
On 21 September, judges from Italy, Romania, Spain, Germany and Finland‘s courts visited the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (SACL). The judges were enrolled in the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) Exchange Programme and visited Lithuania to exchange knowledge, train for professional qualifications and cooperate on an international level.
The President of the Court Skirgailė Žalimienė, Advisor to the President Milda Treigė and Director of the Judicial Research Department Audronė Gedmintaitė presented to the visiting judges categories of cases in the Court‘s jurisdiction, principles of judge and Court work organisation, peculiarities of organisation of written, oral and remote hearings, discussed the importance of case-law development, as well as the application of international and national legal acts into the Court‘s activity.
The EJTN judges were interested in SACL‘s experience about applying for an advisory opinion to the European Court of Human Rights regarding a case about an informed violation of election laws (European Convention on Human Rights Protocol Article 16).
During the meeting, the guests and SACL representatives exchanged opinions on how to improve judiciary activity organisation by reducing the workload, debated current issues in the context of foreigner cases, discussed judge selection procedures.
