Presentation of the Publication "European Union Law and Lithuanian Administrative Justice"
On 15 September, 2023 the joint publication "European Union Law and Lithuanian Administrative Justice" published by Vilnius University Faculty of Law and the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania was presented at the Tech Hub of Vilnius University Faculty of Law.
The presentation-discussion was attended by Prof. Dr. Egidijus Šileikis, Prof. Dr. Skirgailė Žalimienė, Prof. Dr. Bartosz Wojciechowski, Prof. Dr. Tomas Davulis, Ramutė Ruškytė and other co-authors and reviewers, as well as a large number of guests from various state institutions, courts, lawyers and legal academics. The event was led by Prof. Dr. Jurgita Paužaitė-Kulvinskienė, Head of the Research Centre for Administrative Law and Administrative Justice of the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University, and Dr. Dainius Raižys, Judge of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania.
The participants of the discussion introduced the insights presented in the articles, discussed the role of administrative courts in protecting and defending human rights, the impact of European Union law, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, on national law and the practice of administrative courts, and raised questions regarding the meaning of national identity and its possible role in the context of the EU membership.
"European Union Law and Lithuanian Administrative Justice“ is a peer-reviewed collection of articles dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania. The articles review and assess the development of the Lithuanian administrative court system and administrative law, as well as insights into its intersection and interaction with European Union law. The collection of articles also examines topics relevant to the development of relations between the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania and state authorities, the development of the jurisprudence of the European Union and Lithuanian administrative courts, the protection of fundamental human rights in the case law of Lithuanian and international courts, and the case law of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania in specific areas of administrative law where the impact of the European Union law is most strongly evident.
