SACL hosts the Third Seminar Organized by the European Union Agency for Asylum
2025-01-24

On January 23–24, 2025, the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (SACL) hosted an international seminar organized by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA). The seminar focused on the reception conditions for international protection applicants and the legal issues surrounding detention.

The event brought together judges and legal experts from administrative and district courts. Participants explored in detail the provisions of EU law governing reception standards for international protection applicants and analysed detention practices to assess their compliance with human rights standards.

During 2024–2025, SACL and the EUAA are collaborating on a significant project aimed at strengthening the asylum system in Lithuania. To date, three specialized seminars have been held, demonstrating the sustainable development of judicial expertise within the court’s community. This initiative is particularly timely given the growing number of international protection cases being heard in the courts. The partnership with the EUAA is establishing an innovative learning platform that enhances the Lithuanian legal system and improves the quality of justice.

SACL President Skirgailė Žalimienė highlighted the significance of this initiative:
"These seminars provide invaluable opportunities for judicial community members to deepen their knowledge and improve the handling of international protection cases. They also create a unique space to collaborate with colleagues from other countries, share best practices, and strengthen the capabilities of Lithuania's administrative law system."
