Second International Seminar on Foreigners' Law at the Supreme Administrative Court

Second International Seminar on Foreigners' Law at the Supreme Administrative Court 2
2024-07-04

On 20-21 June 2024, the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (SACL) hosted the second international seminar organised by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) for judges and assistant judges of SACL and the Regional Administrative Court dealing with asylum and migration cases.

During the seminar, judges and assistant judges of Lithuanian administrative courts learned about the definition of the Country of Origin Information (COI) methodology, the use of COI in the adjudication process, how to properly assess the COI and differentiate it from other documents used in aliens' cases, how to deal with the problems with the use of the COI, including the procedural issues, and how to use the COI in the decision-making process itself.

According to the organisers of the seminar, this training will provide Lithuanian judges with additional knowledge and competence in the areas of future risk assessment, the concept of state protection, the internal protection alternative, and in making fair and reasonable decisions in administrative aliens' cases, ensuring the protection of the rights of asylum seekers.

This second seminar, organised by the European Union Asylum Agency in cooperation with the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania, was organised in view of the significant increase in the number of international protection cases in the Lithuanian courts in recent years and to reinforce the platform for the exchange of experience.
