On 9–10 March, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (SACL), dr. Skirgailė Žalimienė, participated in a forum of judges of the supreme courts of the Member States of the European Union, organised in Luxembourg by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). This year’s meeting marked the 25th anniversary of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

During the forum, judges discussed the origins, development and application of the Charter within national legal systems. Practical issues were also addressed, including the right to an effective remedy, the protection of the right to private life, and the relationship between fundamental rights and restrictive measures.

“The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union is a living instrument, applied on a daily basis by national courts in resolving disputes concerning individual rights. Such meetings with judges from across Europe strengthen a common understanding of how these rights can be effectively safeguarded throughout the European Union,” said the President of SACL.

The annual forum brings together judges of the supreme and constitutional courts of the Member States of the European Union for dialogue with judges of the CJEU. The discussions provide an opportunity to exchange jurisprudential experience and strengthen cooperation, thereby ensuring the consistent application of European Union law and fundamental rights standards across the Union.
